Coast Mountains School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Hamel to the position of Vice Principal for the Northwest Trades & Employment Training Centre (NTETC).
Dan is a long-time resident of Terrace who holds a Journeyman Trades Carpenter Certification as well as a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Northern British Columbia. He joined the school district in April 2011 and is currently a teacher at Suwilaawks Community School. Dan is an avid pickleball player and is the President of Terrace Pickleball Club. Dan plans to enroll in a relevant Master of Education program in the coming year.
Dan brings a wealth of relevant experiences to his new role having held the position of District ITA (Industry Training Authority) Liaison/Careers Outreach Coordinator for NTETC from April 2019 to June 2023. While serving in this capacity, Dan positively impacted the lives of many learners both inside and outside the classroom, and his supportive, caring nature will serve him well in this new leadership role going forward.
Dan’s work with NTETC will get underway as soon as his teaching assignment at Suwilaawks Community School becomes filled, and at that time he will report directly to Geraldine Lawlor, Director of Instruction (Innovation & Graduation). Some of Dan’s work as NTETC Vice Principal will see him liaise with local community partner Kitselas Five Tier Systems (https://k5t.ca) as they work to provide relevant and engaging educational and employment training opportunities to community members of Kitselas First Nation.
We extend our congratulations to Dan and wish him every success in his new position.
