This week Coast Mountains School District entered into an agreement with Métis Nation in support of learners identifying with Métis ancestry. The friendship agreement between CMSD and Northwest Métis Association, Tri-River Métis Association and Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) uses the Twelve Métis Core Values as a guiding framework and represents a commitment to further dialogue focused on supporting the delivery of culturally relevant programs and services to Métis learners.
The agreement affirms the understanding that Métis children, families and communities need to see their culture and knowledge reflected in the education system, and that learning about Métis culture and identity is important for all children and youth served by Coast Mountains School District.
For the purposes of this friendship agreement, the Métis saying “Nutr Faasoon Kaa Kaanawaymikooyaahk Aansaamb - Our Ways That Keep Us Together” was gifted to Coast Mountains School District, and is contained within the agreement art work pictured above.
