2024 School Trustee By-Election
A School Trustee By-Election for Coast Mountains School District will be held to elect one School Trustee for Trustee Electoral Area 1 (Kitimat) for a term commencing January 2025 and ending in November 2026 in light of the resignation received from Kitimat Trustee Sonny Duncan-Green effective September 17, 2024.

School trustees are the members of the school district’s Board of Education. They are locally elected representatives of the public and they are the community’s advocates for public education in their local school district. They are required to carry out their responsibilities in a manner that assists the Board in fulfilling its duties under the School Act. A trustee’s role is to maintain a focus on student achievement and well-being, and to participate in making decisions that benefit the entire district while representing the interests of their community.

Nomination Period & Notice of Nomination
The nomination period for the 2024 School Trustee By-Election opens on Tuesday, October 22 at 9:00 a.m. and will close at 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024. The public notice for the nomination including specific details is available by accessing the following link:

Nominations for qualified candidates will be received by the Chief Election Officer or a designated person between 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2024 and 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024 (excluding weekends and statutory holidays) at the offices listed below.
No nominations will be accepted after 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024. Nomination documents may be delivered by hand, mail, email or other delivery service. Originals of the emailed nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024.
